December 1
Sam:
This morning we wanted to check out what was around, so we walked around the neighborhood for a bit looking for some food. It was raining when we left, but only a bit.

We found a really good café with some giant palmier cookies. We ended up getting two palmiers, one covered in chocolate and one with a cinnamon caramel topping, and a homemade marshmallow square (I can’t remember what it was called) that all tasted really good. We also found a grocery store, so we got some groceries for our AirBnB.

We roamed part of the city on the way to a palace. We cut through a park.

Charlotte:
Then we finally got to Real Alcazar, a big palace with lots of buildings and gardens and parks. The palace is very old. It was originally built when Morocco had taken over Spain, so it doesn’t look like other palaces in Europe at all. There are lots of really fancy tiles everywhere. I really like the doorways and windows.

There were so many fountains in the gardens. The whole place was very, very pretty. It was gigantic, so even after a few hours, we didn’t get to see the whole thing.

In one of the gardens, there were so many peacocks! We found some male peacocks, and we wanted to get a great picture, so we tried to make them put their tails up by playing female mating sounds on YouTube, but they weren’t convinced. We were kind of sad.

We walked around a little more and found a street stand that sold churros. We stopped to have a snack and got to watch the man make our churros.

When we went home, Sam and I both helped Mom make dinner as a surprise for Dad. Sam and I invented the meal. Mom helped us make it.

What a beautiful place, I love the Moorish architecture. So many wonderful memories. Love from great grandma.
