When in Rome…

Today we went to the Colosseum and all of the beautiful places around it. The Colosseum was very big, with a very amazing history and a very cool structure. I actually did a project on it for school a couple of years ago.

When we got to the Colosseum, we got in the line that was about half an hour long to get inside. We also got an audio guide that explains a lot of things you might not know. We learned lots about gladiators and that over 55 000 people came to watch gladiators fight every time.

We then went to Palatine Hill, that used to be a beautiful palace but now is just a shell. It has beautiful gardens and waterfalls.

The Roman Forum was very pretty even though it was all broken. We saw lots of pillars and ruins. There was a great view, too. We could see almost the whole place from Palatine Hill. One of the buildings that was still standing was a round temple called Tempio do Romolo with huge bronze doors. The bronze doors were green because they were so old. They are the original doors for the temple, which is about 2000 years old.

Then we went to a place called Pizzeria Andrea to eat. They brought us some bread with spicy sausage and chili oil. Dad got salmon pasta, Mom got mushroom risotto, I got pasta with cheese and pepper, and Sam got pasta with pancetta and cream. After dinner, the server brought us some crunchy cookies. We all got some gelato from a different place on the way back to our hostel.

  1. Your pictures have stirred so many memories. Studying Latin taught me so much about the Roman civilization and our visit to Rome was a wonderful experience. I’m so glad you are enjoying your travels. Take care.
