Holiday Spirit in Salerno

November 15

Charlotte

This morning we kind of slept in. Mom and Dad were going to surprise us with an interesting place. The surprise was that it was a cool elevator to the beach, but the problem was it wasn’t working that day. I was disappointed, but there were still stairs at least. The stairs didn’t go right down to the beach though. There is also this kind of stage area part way down the cliff. It was really cool. I was practicing some plays. It was fun singing and acting! It also had a very good view. While I was having fun on the stage, Mom and Dad were looking at the view. It was pretty awesome.

Next, we got some tickets to try to get to Amalfi town because we heard that it was very pretty. We got the tickets and waited at the bus stop. After an hour, we decided to give up and go somewhere else and we also decided we’d maybe go to Amalfi tomorrow when we could start waiting for the bus early in the morning.

At least we had a nice view from the bus stop!

Instead, we took a train to Salerno. We hung out by the beach there. It was crazy windy!

We walked to see the ancient aqueducts. Aqueducts are very tall bridge-type things that used to carry water to the city.

We planned to stay to watch the light up night for Christmas in Salerno, so we walked around and got a snack from McDonald’s before we went to the Villa Communale (a big city park) see the ceremony for turning on the Christmas lights for the season. When we went there, there was a big sign that said “Zoo.” I was wondering what it meant, but then when we walked in, we saw lots of animals that were made out of Christmas lights. They were really big. Many of them were even bigger than the real animals would be. When they put the lights on, it was so pretty. All the animals lit up and all the lights on the streets, too. As we were walking down the streets, we were realising that there is kind of a theme for every street. Some of them were fall, summer, winter, spring, under the sea, and lots more!!!

Waiting for the lights to go on… The mayor was giving a long speech, but we couldn’t understand any of it, of course.
It was a whale of a light display! (Mom joke)

After the lights came on, there were lots of people around and the was a concert in one of the main squares.

Then we took a train back to Vietri-sul-Mare. We went to a pizza place and ate some delicious pizza (my pizza had mashed potatoes it was actually delicious), but there were really ANNOYING boys who kept firing cherry bombs on the street beside us and they are very loud.

It was really late, so we went back to the house and slept.
