Bari to Vietri-sul-Mare: Italy’s Anklet

November 11

Sam:

This morning we got to Bari by the ferry that we took from Dubrovnik. We had to go through port security where a guard wondered why we were going to the Amalfi coast in November. He thought it was too cold (it was 17°C at the time). He has no idea that at that exact moment it was actually -17°C at home!

We took a taxi to the train station and then took a train from Bari to Taranto. When we got to Taranto, we realized that the next train we had to take wasn’t a train at all, but actually a 4-hour long bus ride! The bus drove through some cool mountains on the way to Naples. We took another train to Vietri-sul-Mare, where we were staying.

Land ho! Buongiorno, Italia!

Almost feels like home! 😃

After a tricky walk downhill (down cliff?) from the train station and into town with our luggage, we met our host and walked to our AirBnB to drop our stuff off. We were starving by that point, so we went looking to get some pizza at a nice local restaurant. Our first meal in Italy was amazing! The pizza here is so much better than Canada’s.

Pizza Margherita (tomato sauce, mozzarella, and fresh basil)
Pizza Margherita bigger than me!
Pizza with pumpkin flowers, pancetta, mozzarella, and fior del latte (a second soft cheese)
Dad’s pizza had anchovies on it. He loved it!
Mom had tiramisu (a special Italian dessert with sweet creamy cheese, coffee, and cookies in it).
Dad had lemon cream profiteroles that are special to the Amalfi region we are staying in.
I had Ferrero Rocher cake.
Charlotte also had lemon cream profiteroles.
