A Day of Smoke and Mirrors

November 4

Charlotte:

This morning we had to get up and get packed to check out of our AirBnB. We walked to the train station to store our bags for the day because our bus want leaving until midnight.

After that we went to the Museum of Illusion. In it, there were lots of interactive displays.

There was an infinity room where mirrors made it look like there were thousands of us. There was a table with mirrors so you could see six of yourself playing cards.

Sam:

One of my favourite parts was a room that made you appear to grow or shrink, depending on where you walked in it. I also liked playing the Tower of Hanoi game with my mom.

There were tons of other cool displays, too.

The picture frames looked empty from one angle
… and had 3D hologram images from another.

At the end, there was a little gift shop area. There were many different puzzles you could try to win 10% off of your purchase. We spent a long time there. While I was trying one, Dad figured one out. Then I started working on a pyramid puzzle. Mom and I were able to solve it together! We chose a checkerboard puzzle to buy. None of us can solve it yet.

When we left the museum and got some snacks at a bakery. Then we went into a tunnel that was built under the city as a bomb shelter during WWII. It was long and tall and very echo-y.

Sam:

We left the tunnel in a pedestrian area downtown. We walked until we found a Spar grocery store, where we got some drinks and yogurt.

Really cool fantasy store with an arch made out of skulls!
We got a delicious cob of corn from a street vendor.

We looked for the mushroom museum (which is an actual thing!). We finally found it near the main square, but it was closed for renovations.

Instead, since it was getting later, we went for dinner at a place called Brewbites. We had fish and chips and chicken fingers.

Because our bus is leaving so late, we decided to go see a movie while we waited. We went to see Maleficent 2. It was a really good movie. It was in English with Croatian subtitles.
