November 3
Charlotte:
This morning we slept in a lot. Then we relaxed playing on computers until Mom came in and said we need to get up.

We walked to a big market area to get some food. Sam and I got pears. Then we saw a little bakery near the market. Sam and I got pretzels, Mom got an apple, poppy seed, and cheese pastry, and Dad got a baguette sandwich. We ate our food in front of the big cathedral, sitting on the edge of a fountain. A man who gives tours came over and talked to us about fun things to do in the city. On his advice, we went on a free little tourist train through the downtown.

Sam:
But before the train, we went inside of the cathedral. We saw a nun and some monks. Behind the cathedral was a convent. There were really beautiful doors and an ancient city wall.

After the train, we decided to walk to the zoo (it was about 40 minutes away). While we were walking, we found out that the zoo was going to be closed by the time we arrived, but we went to the park it was in anyways. The walk was very long. We stayed at the park for about 45 minutes. As it got dark, Mom and I saw some baby bats flying around. They were so cute.

Charlotte:
We walked a few blocks and then got an Uber to a restaurant called La Štruk that serves traditional Croatian food called “strukli,” which is made from fresh cottage cheese, cream, and special dough. We ordered 4 kinds: basil pesto, truffle, blueberry, and sweet cheese. We had to wait awhile because it takes at 20 minutes to cook.

As we walked home, we saw a huge crowd of people cheering and yelling. There was a race called the Zagreb Night Run happening. We stayed and watched for awhile. There were so many runners!

Yum!!! The strukli looks so delicious! Looked like you had great weather in Zagreb, wearing shorts. Thanks for your wonderful blogs…. 💕

It’s amazing how the big churches and cathedrals have chairs where ours have pews. Another beautiful country and I looks like the food is great, also. You will have so much to tell everyone when you get home. Great grandma.
