A Ramble through the Cotswolds

Sam:

We hiked up a hill, and on the way to the top, we saw a forest full of big, tall, and twisty looking trees Charlotte loved to climb up. When we got to the top of Nibley Knoll, (which is the hill’s name) we could see very far.

There was also a big tower called the Tyndale monument. (The Tyndale monument is dedicated to a person named William Tyndale who translated the Bible from Latin to English and he died because of it). My dad looked up how big it was and we saw that it had 121 steps to get to the top.

ERECTED A.D. 1866
IN GRATEFUL REMEMBRANCE OF
WILLIAM TYNDALE
TRANSLATOR OF THE ENGLISH BIBLE
WHO FIRST CAUSED THE NEW TESTAMENT
TO BE PRINTED IN THE MOTHER TONGUE
OF HIS COUNTRYMEN
BORN NEAR THIS SPOT HE SUFFERED
MARTYRDOM AT VILVORDEN IN
FLANDERS ON OCT 6 1536

As we hiked up to the top there is a pigeon nesting right near the top so we had to be extra careful not to make it mad or disturb it.

At the top it was really windy and we took a few pictures but that would pretty much all we could do because it was so windy the wind could have blown the hats off our heads!

Charlotte:

When we were done we went back down the 121 Steps.

And we started walking back down the hill. When we were still walking down we met a local family. They had two dogs, one was white and the other was a dachshund, and they said that they had two horses. They were very nice.

We drove to a little town called Wotton-under-Edge to walk around and we saw a haunted house (it creeped us out). It was called the Ancient Ram Inn. Some people come to the town to try to find ghosts inside the inn.

We saw lots of little shops and cafes. We went inside one of the cafes. It was called The Edge – Sam had a vanilla milkshake, Mom had a Cappuccino, Dad had a Diet Coke, and they shared a piece of apple cake. I wasn’t hungry.

Then we drove home to have supper. We had lamb kebabs and potato waffles for supper.

A little bit later I was still a bit hungry, so I asked my mum if I could have an apple. She said yes, so I had an apple, and then my mouth started feeling itchy. I showed it to my mom. Five minutes later my mouth started swelling up😕. I realised that I might be allergic to apples. I had to have allergy medicine.

  1. Oh no, Charlotte, apples too? Be very careful eating fruit! Your blog is excellent so far… I am enjoying the stories! Yours as well,Sam, I liked your description of the Tynedale monument… the pictures show how windy it was in the tower! I was hoping you would have spoken a bit about Stonehenge. I was so excited that you were there! Love you and miss you all.
