Living like Icelanders

Mom and Dad:

Today we decided to take it easy and try to get past the jet lag that seems to still be plaguing all of us. The late night sun is messing with our ability to adapt to this new time zone! We all stay up too late and sleep in.

So, we hung out at the local park, tidied up the apartment, visited another swimming pool (Sundlaug Kópavogs – I’ll let the kids tell you about it), got groceries, filled up the tank with gas, ate in, and sent the kids to bed early.

On a side note, found a few fun items in the grocery store today…

These cookies remind me of my childhood. They taste exactly like Viva Puffs without the marshmallow!

Lion was my favourite chocolate bar when I lived in France. My friend, Lisa, would often eat one of these before she even got out of bed in the morning!

The kids can’t wait to try these Icelandic granola bars.

We all are loving Skyr. So many tasty flavours! It’s a lot like Greek yogurt. Our family favourite so far is Creme Brulee.

Sam:

It was kind of a normal day in Iceland for us. We went to the park and then swimming at another pool.

The pool had three waterslides, about 5 hot tubs, and a lane pool. My favourite waterslide was the blue one because it went the fastest.

After we got home, we actually got to bed on time!

Charlotte:

My favourite part of the pool was the blue slide because it was in a big tube – it looked dark at first but it actually wasn’t too dark inside. I go on my back because it goes way faster that way. There was a hot tub especially for kids with a tiny slide and little corner for parents that was hotter. There was a big ball and octopus that both shot out water.

Before bed, I watched a TV show with my mom called Popples and we did each other’s hair.

Tomorrow we’re getting up early to go to Akureyeri, a town in Northern Iceland.

  1. The pool slide sounds fun! I am so glad you are all having fun. Bring me home a Lion bar! Jenn, is the TV show, Popples, the same as when you were a kid? One of your birthday cakes had Popples on it!
