We then went to wait at the bus stop where a night bus was picking us up, and it was going to drive for 10 hours all night and stop at 9:00am. None of us slept that well except for Sam, and he slept for 7 hours.

We arrived in Dubrovnik just before 10 am. Our AirBnB hosts kindly let us check in early. I was excited to find out that we were staying inside the castle walls, and it was amazing! We got there and we slept most of the day until we went for dinner at a restaurant and shared yummy meat platters. Then we went to bed after watching some shows. It was a really sleepy day.

Today it was a little rainy and we wanted to check out our city, so we explored it all day. As I said, it was raining so we had to bring our umbrellas. The city was very pretty and we walked all around it. It was filled with little shops, skinny streets, and lots of steps.

We learned a little bit about how Dubrovnik was bombed in 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence and how many buildings were damaged or even destroyed.

The sea was beautiful; I liked looking at the waves as they splashed onto the rocks. It was very mesmerizing.

I also liked to look at some of the little towns on the mountains. There are some really nice views.

Our shoes and jackets were soaking wet from all of the rain, so we put them in the wash.

Charlotte:
This morning, we realised our shoes melted in the dryer! They were so bad that they really hurt our feet. We had to look around to find a shoe store outside of the old city. We ended up finding one close by and took an Uber to get there. The prices were actually really great, so we got some new shoes that we loved! They are very comfortable.

Now we could visit the city walls. We were staying inside of them, like in a castle, so we wanted to walk all around it. It was very pretty. We could see the city, the Adriatic sea, the island nearby called Lokrum, and the fortress. It took two hours to walk around the whole city on the walls. We stopped for ice cream and took so many pictures.

Then we went for a pizza at a place called Mamma Margherita. We were looking online, and we heard that Croatia has the second best pizza in the world (the very best pizza in the world is in Italy). It’s true! It was the most delicious pizza ever! Sam and I got a pizza with cheese and ham that was flipped in half (called a calzone). We split in half, but it only looks like we each got a quarter. It was so good! I didn’t finish all of it but I still finished lots. I was so full, but it was worth it.

My favourite thing about Dubrovnik is that there are so many stray cats that I love to play with. They are everywhere around the city. They are clean and well-fed. Most of them like to be petted.
