Oh la la! Le Louvre et le Tour Eiffel sont si beaux!

October 19

Charlotte:

We started off going for groceries in the morning because we needed some stuff to eat. We got Lion cereal (which is like Lion chocolate bars), Boursin and Brie cheese, and Petit Ecolier biscuits.

Sam:

We took the metro to go to a museum called the Louvre. It’s the biggest museum I’ve even been in. My mom looked up a fact that told us if you spent one minute looking at each piece of art inside and stayed for 8 hours a day, it would take you 75 days to see it all!

The most notable work of art there is the Mona Lisa. It has its own huge wall, and we had to line up to see it. When we got to the front, we only got about 30 seconds to look at it before the guards started to shoo us along. We also saw a lot of sculptures and other paintings.

The Mona Lisa looks so small on the huge wall.
Even the ceilings were covered in art!
Venus de Milo

The museum is humongous so we got lost a couple of times as we were looking for the ancient Egypt exhibit. When we found it, we looked at sarcophagi and a really mummy. The face of the mummy was wrapped in a really fancy way, with the linen shaped in concentric squares. The fingers were individually wrapped, so you could see the definition.

Lastly, we went into the basement of the museum.

After about three hours, we were all museumed-out and very hungry.

We walked around outside of the Louvre and took pictures by the glass pyramids. Then we checked out some shops and menus nearby. Finally, we found a restaurant called Paul and decided to eat dinner there (we had missed lunch).

Charlotte:

After eating, we took the metro to get to the Eiffel tower. There were lots and lots of street sellers as soon as we exited the station. They were selling glittery Eiffel tower statues, key rings, berets, and even champagne and roses.

We took dozens of pictures of the tower in the light and in the dark. Lots of sparkling lights were on the tower. The lights that made the tower glow were orange.

Reliving our first visit, 21 years ago.

We didn’t go up the tower. We couldn’t go underneath it because it now had big walls and fences around it with big security gates. When we saw this, Mom was a bit sad because it was very different from when she was in Paris 20 years ago. There never used to be walls.

I did cartwheels across the lawn but had to watch out for all the people. I also got to call my cousins to show them the Eiffel tower.

  1. I loved the art you photographed in the Louvre. I cannot wait to explore this myself some day! And the Eiffel Tower! Loved the pictures of you kids and the one of your parents in front of it! What an absolutely wonderful day! Your meals looked delicious… was that a crepe you had for dessert, Char? And what was on your plate, Jenn? Looks like a cross between a piece of quiche and a piece of pecan pie! Sam, did you eat your salad??

  2. I loved the Eiffel Tower and it seemed that wherever we went you could see it if you looked around. I have a whole book on the tower. Did you know there is an Otis elevator in the tower? The Louvre certainly is enormous and we didn’t have much time, being with a group. Paris is one city I always wanted to return To. The colour of envy is green. Enjoy my dears.
