St. Andrews Old Course

September 29

Brad:

The final round of the golf tournament was on Sunday, and I wanted to spend a few hours on the old course, take some pictures, take it all in and see how it ended up.

I spent the first few holes following Rory McIlroy (who had a great team score with his Dad, but not a great individual score) and then switched over to the leaders who were tied most of the day on the last group.

Great swing!

After the leaders finished on #18 there was a Scottish marching band all dressed up in traditional kilts and playing bagpipes. Then they presented the trophy for individual and team, followed by lots of photos at the famous Swilken bridge on #18. I even got to walk on the course and take some photos.

Even though I watched it by myself, it was still a great day and I’m so lucky that we happened to be in St Andrews on the golf tournament weekend. It was my second favorite day of the trip so far, next to the gorge walking experience.

Jenn:

While Brad went to the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship final day, the rest of us decided to explore the town a little more. We wanted to show Grandma some of the best parts.

We walked through the cobblestone streets, checking out little shops and visiting the cathedral for a second time. It was cold and we were sore from our gorge walking adventure yesterday, so we took it slow.

Our afternoon tea was taken at an adorable restaurant called The Doll’s House. We enjoyed tea, hot cocoa, and Orangina, along with deconstructed rhubarb cheesecake, fudgy chocolate cake, and scone with jam and cream.

We headed back to the house early to get packed. Tomorrow we leave for Edinburgh.
