Sam, on packing:
First of all it’s not easy to get all of these clothes into a couple of suitcases. You need about three or four suitcases – two or three for clothes, plus an extra souvenir suitcase. In the souvenir suitcase, on the way, there is food to start because the food in Iceland is really expensive.
The favourite thing I’m packing is my stuffy. It is an owl wearing a Christmas bandana and it has wings.
Charlotte’s view of packing for Iceland:
My favourite thing I packed was my doll, Lily, and my froggy stuffy.
For Iceland, you have to pack like cold stuff kind of. Well, not really things that would make you sweat, but a bit warm because it’s pretty cold in Iceland in summer and because we’re going into a glacier, and that’s all made of ice.
Mom’s thoughts on packing:
When we were packing for Iceland we had to be careful not to take too many things. Luckily, because we’re doing a home exchange rather than using hotels like we normally would, we don’t have to take as many things, as we’ll have access to a washer and dryer right in the apartment.
We do need to pack a variety of clothes for different sorts of weather. It’s going to be about 15 degrees Celsius, so we can pack pants and t-shirts and a couple of pairs of shorts, some flip-flops and bathing suits for when we go to the hot springs, but we also have jackets and hoodies as well as toques and mitts for when we go into the glacier. As you can tell it’s a pretty diverse packing list – not just one type of clothes like we would normally pack when we go on vacation.
Sam and Charlotte were both helpful packers; they made sure to get all of the clothes on their lists and kept the stuffies, books, and toys to a minimum.

Have fun kids!
